Archaeology and Technology Presentation 2006-09-25

On Thursday, September 28th, Dr. Arne Flaten (Assistant Professor, Art History, Coastal Carolina University) will give a presentation entitled “Archaeology and Technology: Virtual Models and Reconstructions of Ancient Monuments” in which he will discuss Ashes2Art, a start-up program at Coastal Carolina University which combines cutting edge digital technologies, art history, graphic and web design, and digital photography to recreate monuments of the ancient past. Dr. Flaten will also discuss the collaboration of ASU with Coastal Carolina under the direction of Dr. Alyson Gill (Assistant Professor, Art History), when ASU and Coastal students will recreate monuments in the Greek sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi. This pedagogical modeling tool can have a widespread impact across many disciplines, and this talk will provide a forum for a discussion of how virtual modeling can change traditional ways of seeing. Dr. Flaten’s visit is co-sponsored by the Art Department, the CLT, and Information Technology Services. The lecture will be held at Jazzman’s Wireless café at 7:00pm on Thursday, September 28th. The lecture is free and open to the public.
